I was a relatively untried international when Australia contested the World Cup
Final, and I remember being quite "unsettled" about the fact that someone had
told me that I was marking the Great Britain Welterweight Boxing Champion in Syd
Hynes at centre.
I remember that John O'Neill, our Australian front row
forward, had seventeen stitches inserted in his leg after the game. It was,
indeed, as the tabloids labelled it the "Batte of Britain" revisited, but I am
happy that I was a member of the Australian team that eventually won "the
battle".
