Title: ... p25 Memories of Peter Dimond decking Father John Cootes
|
I was at the City/Country game, at the SCG I think, when Peter (City) hit, for
want of a better word, Father John (Country)
It was certainly not
recieved well by the Country supporters with calls everywhere "send him off!!!
Most City supporters either cheered or just thought "OOPS", Father John
was a very popular player even with City supporters.
It really came as no
surprise to me when Peter Dimond was selected in the Australian team to play
England, let's face it THIS WAS WAR!!
You Just don't leave one of your
toughest soldiers at home.
Many years later I had the good fortune to
meet Peter at a race meeting in Ballina in northern New South Wales.
I thought he was a gentleman who would not hurt a fly but after seeing him play
many times and the size of his massive forearms I had no desire to test the
theory at all.
