Hull Kingston Rovers ... Greatest Clubman Nominations / Stories

From Flatcap. from Virtual Terrace Rugby League Forum

Paul Fletcher in his 19th season at Hull KR!! . Position: Prop Forward
Date of Birth: 17/3/1970
Place of Birth: Hull
Height: 6.4'
Weight: 17.5 st
Nickname: Fletch
Year Joined: 1987

The biggest and most experienced member of Rovers squad, Paul strikes fear into the hearts of all his opponents but is also one of the true fans favourites at the club.

Paul served his benefit season in 1999 after spending over ten years at Craven Park. He signed for the Rovers Colts when only 16 and soon after was appearing for the A-team as well as Eureka before signing professional forms for Rovers in September 1987 remaining loyal to Rovers ever since.

At the end of the 1997 season Paul recieved numerous offers from Super League clubs including Hull Sharks who literally said 'name your price' but with Rovers not wanting to sell, Paul showed his faith in the club by signing a new 2 year contract.

Although one of the biggest players his aggressive on the field nature of tough tackling and hard running is not the same as his off field personality of a quiet family man who runs a successful Day Nursery business with his wife.

Having spent most of his career in the second row Paul has seen a change over the last few years playing out of position in the centres and at prop but has proven to be a revelation, especially in the front row, grabbing a number of tries and proving to be a handful for most opposition defences.

Like a fine wine Paul continues to get better with age collecting the Website Player of the Year award in 2002 and the Supporters Player of the Year award in 2003.

A very powerful runner with an excellent attacking and defensive game. A constant threat for oppositions making numerous clean breaks and crucial off loads. A destructive tackler respected by all the opponents he has come up against.

Paul scored his 100th try for the Robins in 2004 and now starts his 19th season with the club looking to break Mike Smith's appearance record with the Robins.

From Ian P. . from Virtual Terrace Rugby League Forum

Its not just about how many trophies they have lifted, its about commintment to one club over years. Fletch at Rovers is a good example already mentioned.

From g_balls. from Virtual Terrace Rugby League Forum

Mike Smith played for Hull KR from 1974 to 1991, and Paul Fletcher is still playing for the Robins, he started out in 1986 or 87 i think.

From TheEastofHullisRed. from TotalRL Rugby League Forum

What he Said to Hull F.C when they put an offer to him i'm afraid is not suitable for posting on a public forum I'm afraid

From Pamplona. from TotalRL Rugby League Forum

Other names can be mentioned as long as people understand that everyone is a distant second place behind Trevor Foster

From Leeds Wire. from TotalRL Rugby League Forum

Paul Cullen became the first person to have completed a Warrington triple whammy of having been born in the town, having played for Wire and then having taken on the mantle of being the club's head coach.

At Hull KR, it can only be Roger "the Dodger" Millward. His record and his talent speak for themselves..

"I posted a thread on several Rugby League Forums in the UK and Australia and above are some of the responses. No major correspondence will be entered into but further comments are always welcome. Where there has been a detailed response then I will link it to another page for the convienience of reading it at your leisure. Of course this blockhead is not familiar with clubs from the northern hemisphere so I have relied on the goodwill of those submitting comments" - Quigs.
